Over the years, Nigeria has always been blessed with talented wingers that don’t just dribble and run with the ball but also score.
From the days of Emmanuel Amunike, Findi George, Osaze Odemwingie, Ahmed Musa, Victor Moses and Ademola Lookman, the Super Eagles have never lacked wingers.
Ademola Lookman and Victor Moses both came from the English youth system and have impacted the Super Eagles to a very good extent.
While they both play in different sides of the pitch, they share similar characteristics: pace, power, trickery and sharp instincts for goals.
The duo are one of the very few players on the national team who can boast of a well decorated club and national team careers.
However, in terms of impact for both clubs and country Ademola Lookman slightly edges Victor Moses.
1. AFCON Impact
Victor Moses was part of the triumphant Super Eagles team at the 2013 AFCON where he scored 2 goals.
Ademola Lookman on the hand made an instant impact at his first AFCON this year as scored 3 goals and provided an assist en route to the final.
The 27-year-old played the corner-kick that lead to William Troost-Ekong’s goal in the final against Cote D’Ivoire.
2. European Success
Ademola Lookman is the reason why Atalanta are a force to reckon with in Europe right now.
Lookman lead the team to its first-ever trophy in Europe as he scored a hat trick in the 3-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen.
He became the first player to do so in the history of the competition.
Even though Victor Moses won the Europa League twice with Chelsea, his impact can’t be compared to Ademola Lookman’s feat which has already been inscribed in the anals of European club competition history.
3. CAF POTY
Victor Moses never made it to the podium of the CAF African Player of the Year award. He had a brilliant run with the Super Eagles and Chelsea that period but never made it to the final shortlist.
Ademola Lookman on the other hand won the award on his first attempt on Monday as he dethroned Victor Osimhen to become the sixth Nigerian player to win the award.
Lookman also made it to 2024 Ballon D’or awards where he finished 14th. He was the only African on the list for the year under review.
Given the current form of Ademola Lookman and the potential of the Super Eagles to win the Africa Cup of Nations, this comparison will no longer be conversation-worthy even though the achievements of both players seem to be at par at the moment.
