Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle unveiled a 31-man provisional squad for Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa in September 2025.
The squad blends seasoned players with emerging talents, and several new faces have earned call-ups based on recent performances, notably at the 2025 Unity Cup in London.

Here are five new players in the provisional squad.
- Ebenezer Harcourt (Goalkeeper, Sporting FC): The 2009-born goalkeeper made his mark with the Super Eagles B team during their friendly win over Congo at the Unity Cup, earning his first senior call-up. His inclusion highlights Chelle’s focus on youth.
- Benjamin Fredericks (Defender, Dender FC, Belgium): A promising young defender, Fredericks impressed at the Unity Cup, showcasing his potential to bolster Nigeria’s backline. His call-up reflects Chelle’s intent to integrate fresh defensive talent.
- Felix Agu (Defender, Werder Bremen, Germany): The versatile full-back’s performances at the Unity Cup earned him a spot. His pace and adaptability add depth to the defensive unit.
- Igoh Ogbu (Defender, SK Slavia Prague, Czech Republic): Despite some criticism for lacking composure at the Unity Cup, Ogbu’s inclusion suggests Chelle sees potential in the young centre-back to grow at the international level.
- Christantus Uche (Midfielder, Getafe CF, Spain): The 22-year-old midfielder, who shone with a goal and assist in Getafe’s LaLiga opener, brings dynamism to the midfield. His Unity Cup display further justified his maiden senior call-up.
