Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has stated that Anthony Joshua will not be fighting in the ring again until at least May of next year.
The injury means a rematch between Joshua and IBF heavy boxing champion Daniel Dubois is off the table.
At Wembley Stadium in September, Joshua a two-time heavyweight champion was knocked out in spectacular fashion by Dubois in the fifth round.
After the defeat, Hearn stated that a rematch with Dubois was the next possibility.
However, the rematch date of February 22 is not feasible for Joshua to return to the ring.
Hearn revealed the extent of the 35-year-old’s injury in a report stating that there was no tear in the bicep region.
Tyson Fury, who has long been linked to a super fight Joshua may now be considered for his return to the ring.
On December 21, Fury will face unified champion Oleksandr Usyk for the first time since losing to the Ukrainian in May which will play a role in determining who Joshua faces next.
