Liverpool left it late but secured a dramatic 1-0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor, with Mohamed Salah’s stoppage-time penalty preserving their perfect Premier League start.
The Reds dominated possession throughout but struggled to find a way through Burnley’s disciplined back line. The Clarets, cheered on by a raucous home crowd, defended in numbers and looked set to frustrate Arne Slot’s side into dropping points for the first time this season.
The turning point came deep into added time when Jeremie Frimpong’s cross struck the arm of Hannibal Mejbri inside the box. After strong appeals, the referee pointed to the spot. Salah stepped up under immense pressure and calmly slotted home in the 95th minute, sparking wild celebrations in the away end.

Burnley’s resilience had already been dented by a late setback, with Lesley Ugochukwu sent off in the 84th minute for a second bookable offence. Despite being a man down, the hosts looked like holding on until Salah’s decisive moment.
The result makes it four wins from four for Liverpool, who have now taken maximum points despite needing late goals in each of their matches so far.
Salah’s strike was also historic, moving him past Andrew Cole into fourth on the Premier League’s all-time scoring chart with 188 goals, and establishing him as Liverpool’s record penalty scorer with 35.
