AC Milan have long held an interest in Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira and have now made their move by inquiring over his availability this summer.
The Serie A side were linked with a move for the Uruguayan last summer and there had been contact over a transfer, but Arsenal had no intention of selling the player they had only signed 12 months prior.
However, times have changed and Torreira does not feature in the plans of Mikel Arteta, who took over as Gunners boss in December.
He is one of a number of players available for transfer this summer as Arteta attempts to achieve something of a clear out, allowing him to bring in new signings, with the likes of Houssem Aouar and Thomas Partey targeted.
Sky Sports Italy’s Gianluca Di Marzio reports that the inquiry has come in from Milan for Torreira, who has also been linked with Fiorentina and Torino this summer, having previously played in Italy with Sampdoria.
Of course Torreira is available but there will certainly be negotiation over price, with Arsenal thought to want around £22m for the 24-year-old who cost them £26m in 2018.
In an interview with Uruguyuan radio station Sport890 last month, Torreira hinted he could be set to depart the Emirates.
‘Today I need to think about my future very well,’ he said.
‘I have a contract with the club and I have to respect it, obviously, if I have to leave it will be for the best. ‘We have to be calm and wait.’
