Ademola Lookman has given credit to his club coach Gian Piero Gasperini for playing a huge role in the revival of his football career.
The 27-year-old said the Italian coach told him what he wanted from him and how he should used his talent to help the team immediately he arrived at the club.
He also added that the city of Bergamo also played a role in helping him develop and focus on his career revival.
The 2024 Ballon D’or nominee made these comments ahead of Atalanta’s UEFA Champions League clash against reigning title holders, Real Madrid tonight.
“I think that from the first moment I arrived, the coach always told me what he wanted from me, he spoke to me clearly, he told me to focus on my qualities and make them available to the team.
“In the last two years I have tried to improve my game, the city of Bergamo has given me a lot, it helps me to focus on what I have to do.”
“I think that together we have shown a lot, we have grown as a team. I think that each of us has grown a lot, at a different level, both in the legs and in the mind.
“As a team, everyone works for their teammate, in the Europa League final it was clearly seen, the level we showed. But this is a different season”.
After struggling at his previous clubs: Leipzig, Leceister and Fulham, Lookman’s career has now taken a postive turn.
Ademola Lookman has been brilliant over the last 18 months for Atalanta and the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
He also led the Super Eagles of Nigeria to a second-place finish at the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote D’Ivoire with 3 goals and an assist in 7 matches.
The forward has 8 goals and 4 assists in 12 league appearances from Atalanta this season who currently lead the Serie A with 34 pooints.
Lookman will look to add to his 2 goals and an assist when Atalanta welcome Real Madrid at the Gewiss Stadium tonight.
