Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz defeated Australian Alex De Minaur to claim the Queens ATP 500 in London which puts him back at the apex of the ATP rankings as world number one.
With the Wimbledon a few weeks away, Alcaraz will be going into the grand slam competition as world number one ahead of Serbian legend Novak Djokovic who is gunning for a record 24th Grand Slam after winning the French Open few weeks ago.
The match was evenly balanced up until 4-4 when De Minaur was broken in game 9. Alcaraz wrapped up the first set in style without dropping a point to win it at 6-4 and have on hand on the title.
The second set started almost in the same fashion with the game tied at 2-2 but Alcaraz broke his opponent again in the 5th game held his serve to go 4-2 up. Both players held their serves but the early break gave Alcaraz the edge and he held on to win his first grass ATP tournament on grass court and going into the Grand Slam in good form.
Alcaraz reclaims back his top spot overtaken French Open champion Djokovic who drops to number two; both are huge favorites to win Wimbledon title it will be another record for the Serbian if he wins.
