Ander Herrera has revealed he told Edinson Cavani that Manchester United is a team you ‘cannot say no to’ before the striker completed his move to Old Trafford.
The 33-year-old was brought in on deadline day to bolster Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s options in attack.
Cavani left Paris Saint-Germain in June after seven years at the French club, in which he won Ligue 1 six times, scoring a club-record 200 goals during that period.
The veteran striker sought advice from his former team-mate and ex-United midfielder Herrera, who told him he could not turn down a switch to the Manchester club.
‘He asked me for my advice and I told him that United is one of those teams that you cannot say no to,’ Herrera told Spanish radio show El Larguero.
‘The pity is that he is not going to be able to enjoy the fans. Old Trafford is unique.’
‘Manchester United is one of the greatest clubs in the world, so it is a real honour to be here,’ The Uruguayan told United’s official website.
I’ve worked really hard during the time off and I feel eager to compete and represent this incredible club.
‘I have played in front of some of the most passionate supporters in football during my career and I know that it will be the same in Manchester. I cannot wait to experience the Old Trafford atmosphere, when it is safe for the fans to return.
‘I look forward to continuing to write my little story inside the book of football and I know that’s why my focus has to remain the same as always – work, work, work. I have had a conversation with the manager and this has increased my desire to wear this beautiful shirt.‘
