Mikel Arteta has revealed that Matteo Guendouzi will be handed a clean slate at Arsenal amid rumours of the midfielder’s exit from the club.
The Frenchman was exiled from the squad after a bust-up with Neal Maupay following the Gunners’ 2-1 defeat to Brighton back in June.
Guendouzi hasn’t featured again since then, leading to speculation that he will be offloaded this summer.
The 21-year-old is a raw talent and has shown flashes of brilliance since joining the club from Ligue 2 side Lorient for just £8 million in 2018.
When asked if Guendouzi will be reintegrated back into the squad, Arteta said: ‘I have been really clear that everybody starts from zero all the time in football.
‘What you did two weeks ago or two years ago doesn’t really matter. It’s what you are able to contribute to the team now.
‘Everybody is going to have the same opportunities. They’ll have to show with their performances and their attitude that they are better than their teammates or somehow contributing to what we want to achieve this season.’
‘He deserves first of all to be treated exactly the same and I will do that to my best capability.’
