Arsenal’s resounding 7-1 victory over PSV Eindhoven has sent shockwaves across Europe, and club legend Thierry Henry believes the Gunners have cemented their status as favorites to win the Champions League.
Henry’s comments came after Arsenal’s dominant performance in the first leg of their round-of-16 tie against PSV.
“Yes, they can. I do believe that this is why I called it,” Henry said on CBS Sports Golazo.
“I’m just saying now, show us that you can do that against a good team, with people that are coming back.”
Henry was impressed by Arsenal’s display, particularly given the challenge of playing away from home.
“No disrespect to Eindhoven, I thought it was going to be difficult, especially away from home, but they made it look easy,” he noted. “I think they had an outstanding game, as you can see with the result.”
While Henry acknowledges that Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes are all but over, he believes their Champions League campaign can be a catalyst for confidence.
“But, we all know that the (Premier) League is over. Apart from if something crazy happens, what I’m trying to say is that this game can help maybe to be confident in this competition.”
“Sometimes I think the path to the final can at times help or not, but if you want to win the competition, you have to go through the best teams like Real Madrid”
