Odegaard, 22, made the January switch to the Emirates from Real Madrid on loan until the end of the season in search of more regular playing time.
The Norway international has been used frequently by Mikel Arteta and impressed so far with two goals in 10 appearances across all competitions, including a vital equaliser in last weekend’s north London derby win over rivals Spurs.
And former Gunners midfielder Thomas feels Odegaard has had a positive impact on Arteta’s side since his arrival in north London.
‘Odegaard has been great,’ Thomas told CaughtOffside. ‘He works extremely hard for the team and links the play between the lines.
‘He can alternate with the wide men and looks to have a great understanding of the game at such an early age.’
‘Kieran Tierney is certainly one of my favourites in the current squad,’ he added.
‘He plays with such passion for the game and really understands what it means to fight for a shirt.
‘What makes it better is the engine and ability he has going forwards and backwards.
‘I’d put him in the top 3 left-backs in the league and I don’t think you’ve seen anywhere near his best yet.’
