Arsene Wenger believes Liverpool transfer target Kylian Mbappe will win the Ballon d’Or at least once within the next five years and predicts he will be plying his trade for Real Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain.
Mbappe’s contract in the French capital expires at the end of next season, with Liverpool among the clubs ready to try and lure him away from the Parc des Princes this summer.
The France World Cup winner has already banged in 18 goals in 19 Ligue 1 starts this season and has scored a further five goals in six Champions League appearances, but PSG may be forced to cash in if they can’t get him to commit to a new deal.
Real Madrid and Liverpool have both been long-linked with the 22-year-old French forward and if PSG do decide to sell there will inevitably be a big tussle for his signature.
But Arsenal legend Wenger thinks he will either remain in France or move to Madrid and suspects he will only go from strength to strength wherever he plies his trade.
‘In five years’ time, Kylian will be on top of the world. On top of the world in Paris or Madrid,’ Wenger told Le Parisien.
‘And I hope he will have won one or several Ballon d’Or. Kylian must not place any limitations on himself.
‘I have said that there are similarities between Kylian and Pele. He is a good example to follow. Pele played in four World Cups, he won three.
‘The French national team, which won the World Cup with key young players and by a distance, has it all to win the next one.’
