Arsenal’s hopes of signing RB Salzburg midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai have been dashed after RB Leipzig agreed a deal to sign the Hungary international.
The 20-year-old has been tracked by a host of top European clubs this season following an impressive campaign with Salzburg.
It was evident that the midfielder would leave the club but he had to decide whether to do so in January or wait until the end of the season.
Arsenal felt their chances were boosted by Szoboszlai’s decision to opt for January but the winger has opted to join Leipzig instead, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Hungary international will touch down in Germany today with his representatives to undergo a medical and it’s a blow for Arsenal, who have severely lacked creativity this term.
The Gunners have exiled Mesut Ozil, while the club failed to land Houssem Aouar from Lyon in the summer.
Edu, Arsenal’s Sporting Director, admits the club are lacking a creative player in midfield to knit play together.
‘It’s quite clear what we need,’ said Edu.
‘We need a player with creativity in the middle. We don’t have that in the squad right now.’
