The Uruguay international joined Atletico on loan for the rest of the season in October but has struggled to secure a regular role in the first team.
Torreira has started just two games for Atletico so far but Diego Simeone’s side have made a strong start to the campaign as they sit two points clear at the top of La Liga and have two games in hand over second-placed Real Madrid.
According to Madrid-based Libertad Digital, Arsenal’s hierarchy are ‘angry’ with Atletico over Torreira’s lack of playing time and believe the Spanish club are intentionally devaluing his potential transfer fee because a purchase option was not included in the loan deal.
The report also claims that Arsenal were unaware that Atletico would go on to sign Geoffrey Kondogbia, which has provided even more competition for a place for Torreira.
Atletico were already furious with Arsenal in October after the Gunners did not give the Spanish club any indication that they were planning to trigger Thomas Partey’s £45 million release clause.
Earlier this week, reports in Italy claimed that Fiorentina are exploring the possibility of signing Torreira on loan this month.
The Serie A club, along with Torino, were keen on the Uruguayan in the summer before he opted to join Atletico.
‘Lucas is calm and happy and has nothing in his mind beyond continuing with Atletico,’ Betancur told Gianluca Di Marzio.
‘He is finishing his process of adaptation [to the team and La Liga].’
