Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has expressed skepticism about Arsenal’s prospects of clinching the Premier League title this season.
He has suggested that manager Mikel Arteta should consider stepping down if he fails to secure the championship by the end of the 2025/2026 campaign.
Speaking on his “Obi One Podcast,” Mikel stated, “It’s Liverpool’s to lose. I don’t think Arsenal will win it. If Mikel Arteta doesn’t win the league next season, I think he should leave the football club.”
Mikel highlighted the significant financial investments made under Arteta’s tenure, reportedly nearing £800 million, and emphasized the importance of delivering tangible success.
He remarked, “That’s going to be seven seasons, and you have spent close to 800 million. I don’t think they are going to win the league this season. If he doesn’t win the league next season, I think he should walk because City are going to be back.”
Mikel also warned of the increasing competition in the league, noting that clubs like Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Newcastle are expected to strengthen their squads, potentially making Arsenal’s quest for the title even more challenging.
As of now, Arsenal sits second in the Premier League standings with 40 points from 20 matches, trailing league leaders Liverpool by six points, with Liverpool having a game in hand.
