Brazil legend Cafu believes new Arsenal signings Gabriel and Willian have joined the club with the intention of winning the Premier League and they have a chance to do just that.

Gabriel arrived from Lille and Willian from Chelsea as part of manager Mikel Arteta’s significant overhaul of the squad this summer, which is still ongoing with the transfer window closing on 5 October.

Things have started well for the new arrivals, with the Gunners winning both their first two Premier League matches of the season and progressing to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup with a victory over Leicester on Wednesday night.

The target for Arteta’s side this season will be to regain a spot in the Premier League top four and return to the Champions League, but Cafu believes his Brazilian compatriots will be aiming higher than that.

The Gunners may have only finished eighth in the table last season, but Cafu believes they should be targeting the title thanks to their new signings.

‘Two great players, I am a fan of both Gabriel and Willian,’ Cafu told Laureus.com via the Sun. ‘Willian already stood out in the Brazilian team, in the games he played, and stood out at Chelsea.

‘Gabriel stood out and continues to impress. I think they are two players who really will perform very well at Arsenal.

‘They are players who came, not only to add value, they came to win the Premier League.’

Arsenal have a tough task to extend their unbeaten record this season on Monday night as they travel to take on the Premier League champions, Liverpool, at Anfield.
