Taiwo Awoniyi has regained full fitness and is determined to secure a starting spot for Nottingham Forest this season.
The 2023-34 season was marred by injuries, including a groin issue requiring surgery and a thigh problem, but Awoniyi is now focused on building his fitness. The Nigerian striker also missed part of pre-season due to personal reasons, putting him behind teammate Chris Wood in terms of form and fitness.
Awoniyi has made substitute appearances in the team’s first three games and is eager to reclaim his place in the starting lineup.
“Nottingham Forest is a team full of talent and players who can be trusted,” he said.
“I just need to keep pushing and keep working hard.”
The 27-year-old Nigerian striker expressed his joy at being back on the field, saying, “It feels great to be back. After a period away due to injury, returning to play is what every footballer hopes for. I’m really happy to be back on the field.”
Reflecting on his injury struggles, Awoniyi acknowledged the challenges but emphasized his determination to move forward.
“I am back, I’m healthy and fine. Injuries are a difficult topic, but as a player, it’s a phase you can’t avoid. I’m focused on staying fit and doing my best.”
The Tricky Tees travel to Anfield to face Liverpool this weekend before taking on Brighton, Fulham, and Chelsea.
