Christian Chukwu, former Green Eagles captain and Super Eagles coach has passed on aged 74 according to several credible sources online.
According reports Christian Chukwu fondly called “Chairman” died on Saturday morning after battling illness.
Former teammates Emmanuel Okala and Chief Segun Odegbami confirmed the death of the 1980 AFCON winner.
Christian Chukwu played a center back for Enugu Rangers – the only club he played for and led the Flying Antelopes to several titles including four Challenge Cup titles and the Africa Winners Cup in 1977.
He started playing for the Green Eagles in 1972 and retired shortly after the 1980 AFCON success on home soil – Nigeria’s first title.
Chukwu served as coach of the Super Eagles between 2003-2005 before returning to his boyhood club as head coach until 2009.
