The Confederation of African (CAF) Football will approach Egypt to host the 2025 Under-20 AFCON after Côte d’Ivoire pulled out as host with about a month to start the competition.
Côte d’Ivoire withdrew as host of the 18th edition of the tournament due to logistical reasons on Wednesday.
With about a month to start of the competition, Egypt appears to be CAF’s preferred choice to host the tournament.
The draw for the 2025 edition has been concluded since February, and 12 teams, including the Flying Eagles of Nigeria, will compete alongside 13 teams in Groups A, B, and C.
The Flying Eagles are in Group B alongside Egypt, South Africa, and Morocco.
Nigeria’s Flying Eagles find themselves in a difficult group as they look to win their eighth continental title.
The 2025 Under-20 AFCON will kick off on 26 April and end on 18 May.
Senegal are the defending champion of the competition – their first-ever title, which they won two years ago.
