Liverpool and Man City have dominated English football in recent years, with Jurgen Klopp’s Reds storming to their first title in 30 years last season.
Klopp’s side have enjoyed a productive albeit slightly concerning start to the 2020-21 campaign, with a number of injuries affecting the team as they bid to defend the title.
Liverpool are currently joint-top alongside Tottenham, while Leicester City, Southampton and Chelsea are all within touching distance of the leaders.
Much is expected of Chelsea this season following a summer in which they spent more than £200million but Lampard recently said it was ‘ridiculous’ to view his team as ‘favourites’.
Hoddle understands Lampard’s stance but says London rivals Chelsea and Tottenham both have a ‘fighting chance’ to pip Liverpool and City to the title.
‘But if there is ever a season where someone can come through and win the Premier League, it could be this year.
‘You only have to look at the results this past weekend. Now Chelsea brought in Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech, they have unbelievable firepower, and they have brought Thiago Silva in and brought in a goalkeeper which seems to have sorted their defensive issues.
‘I can see why Frank is underplaying it, and yes Liverpool and Manchester City are still the favourites, but Chelsea and Tottenham are in with a fighting chance.’
