Partey, who joined Arsenal from Atletico Madrid on transfer deadline day, produced an impressive display to help Mikel Arteta’s side beat Rapid Vienna 2-1 in the Europa League on Thursday night.
A Bernd Leno mistake gifted Vienna star Taxiarchis Fountas the opener but Luiz and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored two goals in five second-half minutes to ensure Arsenal began their European campaign with a victory.
‘He is a great player and I’m so happy he joined us,’ Luiz said of Partey, who cost Arsenal £45m.
‘It is a pleasure for me to see players like that, playing off the ball and trying to manage the game. I think he did very well.’
Luiz also defended Leno after his error saw Rapid Vienna take the lead against Arsenal, insisting the German goalkeeper is ‘amazing’.
‘I think Bernd is amazing. It is part of our philosophy to build from the back, this is a normal thing,’ Luiz added.
‘You always play to eliminate players from the beginning when you build then it is going to be much easier for the strikers.
‘So, if you count how many times it went well… but just one he did wrong and this is part of our philosophy.
‘He is great and he gives us the opportunity to play from the back to try to help us.’
Arsenal boss Arteta, meanwhile, insisted there was ‘more to come’ from new signing Partey following the Europa League win.
He said: ‘I think he held the midfield by himself in the second half when we were a little bit more open.
‘He started to take more chances attacking certain spaces with some players. I think he was fantastic and there is much more to come from him.’
Arsenal return to Premier League action on Sunday against Leicester City.
