Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle’s decision to invite Victor Boniface continues to divide opinions ahead of the 2026 World Cup doubleheaders against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
Boniface has struggled to return to his best form for Bayer Leverkusen and has yet to make a significant impact in his previous appearances for the Super Eagles, leading some to wonder if his inclusion is justified.
Since his return from injury in late January, the 24-year-old has managed just 141 minutes across seven league matches. Nigerians and fans across social media have voiced their concerns saying Boniface doesn’t deserve a start.
As one fan put it on social media platform X, “Boniface has been struggling to regain his form since returning from injury. What makes Chelle think he’s ready for the World Cup qualifiers?”
Another fan chimed in, “I don’t get why Boniface keeps getting called up. He’s not even a regular starter for Bayer Leverkusen!”
His inability to make a significant impact in previous appearances for the Super Eagles has only added fuel to the fire.
With the World Cup qualifiers just around the corner, the pressure is on Chelle to make the right decisions, and Boniface’s selection is raising eyebrows.
