Manchester United have finally reached an agreement with Sporting Lisbon to appoint Ruben Amorim as their new manager, replacing Erik ten Hag.
However, Amorim won’t join United immediately. As part of the agreement, he will remain in charge of Sporting Lisbon for their next three games.
It means his first game as Erik ten Hag’s successor would therefore be the Premier League away game against Ipswich Town – managed by Kieran McKenna who United spoke to at the end of last season.
The deal is reportedly worth €12 million (£10 million) in compensation to Sporting, plus additional funds for staff and early release from a 30-day notice period.
Sporting want Amorim to remain in charge for the UEFA Champions League game against Manchester City on Tuesday night and the big game against rivals Braga.
Ruud Van Nistelrooy will remain as interim boss for the visit of Chelsea and United’s next two games.
