Borussia Dortmund secured their spot in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals with a 2-1 victory over Lille on Wednesday night, at the Decathlon Arena – Stade Pierre-Mauroy in Lille, France.
This win resulted in a 3-2 aggregate triumph for the German side, marking their consecutive advancement to the last eight of the competition.
The match commenced with high intensity, as Lille’s forward Jonathan David found the net in the 5th minute. David’s early strike came from a shot that slipped through the legs of Dortmund’s goalkeeper, Gregor Kobel, giving the French side an early advantage.
Despite the setback, Dortmund maintained composure and began to assert control over the game. Their efforts were rewarded in the 54th minute when Emre Can converted a penalty, leveling the score.
The penalty decision was met with some controversy, but Can remained unfazed, slotting the ball past Lille’s goalkeeper.
The momentum shifted further in Dortmund’s favor in the 65th minute. Maximilian Beier showcased his striking prowess by netting a goal that put the visitors ahead.
Beier’s decisive finish not only gave Dortmund the lead in the match but also tilted the aggregate score to 3-2 in their favor.
With this victory, Borussia Dortmund advances to the quarter-finals, where they are set to face FC Barcelona.
