Nigeria’s national basketball team, D’Tigers, has successfully qualified for the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket Championship in Angola.
In their final Group B qualifying match, D’Tigers faced Cape Verde and delivered a dominant fourth-quarter performance to secure a 77-62 victory. This win propelled Nigeria into second place in the group, solidifying their spot in the upcoming tournament.
Earlier in the qualifying window, D’Tigers showcased resilience with a hard-fought 75-70 win over hosts Libya. Trailing at halftime, the team rallied in the second half, with Caleb Agada leading the charge by recording a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Building on this momentum, Nigeria faced Uganda and, despite a challenging start, mounted an impressive comeback. After trailing in the first half, D’Tigers dominated the fourth quarter, outscoring Uganda 32-8 to clinch an 87-67 victory.
This performance not only boosted team morale but also improved their standing in Group B.
With these consecutive victories, D’Tigers have demonstrated their determination and skill, earning their place in the AfroBasket 2025 Championship.
The tournament is scheduled to take place in Angola this August, where Nigeria will aim to make a significant impact on the continental stage.
