The Nigeria Football Federation’s Executive Committee has approved Mr. Éric Sékou Chelle as head coach of the Super Eagles, the senior men’s national football team.
The NFF Technical and Development Sub-Committee proposed the selection of a former coach of Mali’s senior men’s national team as the Super Eagles’ new head coach during its meeting on Thursday, January 2, 2025, in Abuja.
The NFF Executive Committee approved this recommendation on Tuesday, January 7.
Since 2022, Chelle has served as the head coach of the Aiglons of Mali, having coached teams like GS Consolat, FC Martigues, Boulogne, and MC Oran and earning five caps for the team.
At the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Cote d’Ivoire, Chelle’s Mali came very close to a position in the semi-finals, losing to hosts and eventual winners Cote d’Ivoire 2-1 after extra time.
During his playing career, the 47-year-old played for Lens, Istres, Martigues, Valenciennes, and Chamois Niortais in France.
With the next set of games scheduled for March, he will be responsible for leading the Super Eagles to gain a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals.
