Flying Eagles: Nigeria defeats Ghana to lift WAFU B U-20 Cup

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles defeated Ghana’s Black Satellites 2-1 in the final to win the 2024 WAFU B U-20 Championship.

In the fiercely contested game on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at the Stade Kegue in Lome, Togo, Kparobo Arierhi’s brace proved to be too much for the Ghanaians to overcome.

The Flying Eagles were able to successfully defend the championship they had won at the previous edition, which was hosted in the Niger Republic in 2022.

Nigeria advanced to the 2025 U-20 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) final by defeating Niger Republic 4-1 in the semifinals.

Arierhi gave the team the lead after 30 minutes, and they continued their outstanding performance in the tournament against the Black Satellites in the final.

Later in the game, Ghana cut the margin in half, but it was too little, too late.

At the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Nigeria and Ghana will represent the WAFU B zone.

African qualifying for the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile will also be held during the AFCON, and the four semi-finalists will automatically advance.
