On Sunday, October 27, 2024, the Nigerian Flying Eagles advanced to the 2024 WAFU B U20 Championship final after defeating Junior Mena of the Niger Republic 3-1 in Lome.
The seven-time African champions were down after only nine minutes just as they were against Cote d’Ivoire.
Niger Republic at the Stade Kegue were ahead but in response, the Flying Eagles dominated and scored three goals to advance to the Final.
The Flying Eagles tied the score in the 35th minute thanks to a goal from outside the box by Clinton Jephta.
Thirteen minutes after the restart, Jephta scored again to give Nigeria the lead for the first time.
The Flying Eagles won thanks to Olalekan Alonge’s third goal in extra time.
The result ensures the Flying Eagles a place in the next year’s Africa U20 Cup of Nations.
Following their 2-1 victory over Cote d’Ivoire in the other semifinal, the Flying Eagles will play fierce rivals Ghana in the WAFU B tournament final.
