Frank Lampard is hopeful Hakim Ziyech and Callum Hudson-Odoi will return to training by the end of the week but says he’s unsure whether the pair will be able to feature in Chelsea’s next match against West Ham.
Ziyech and Hudson-Odoi were both absent on Tuesday evening as the Blues threw away a one-goal lead to lose 2-1 away to Wolves in the Premier League.
Chelsea have been without Ziyech since the Moroccan was forced off with a thigh problem versus Leeds, while Hudson-Odoi has been struggling with a similar issue which has kept him out of the club’s last four games.
But Lampard is confident he will soon have a fully fit squad at his disposal, with the attacking duo closing in on their first-team returns.
‘Hakim and Callum will hopefully be training by the end of the week,’ Lampard said at his post-match press conference following Chelsea’s loss at Molineux.
‘Whether they’re fit for West Ham I’m not sure.’
Lampard pulled no punches after Chelsea’s defeat at Wolves and suggested his players may have got complacent as a result of their 14-match unbeaten streak this season.
Asked what had changed in Chelsea’s last two games, Lampard told Amazon Prime Video ‘Performance.
‘Performance is what gives you results and we were playing very well, long unbeaten run, and then maybe the lads think we’re playing well.
‘And the minute you think you’re playing well, things like this can happen.’
‘Yeah, that’s important [the rest before Chelsea’s clash with West Ham next Monday] but maybe for the players also to think about the game while they’re resting,’ he added.
‘Think about tonight, think about Everton.
‘This is the Premier League and if you don’t perform you lost games and we’ve got another game on Monday.’
