Chilwell had been unable to take part in pre-season with Chelsea but returned to training a couple of weeks ago before getting on the pitch against Barnsley in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.
The 23-year-old came on in the 66th minute and looked very assured, setting up Olivier Giroud for the final goal in Chelsea’s 6-0 win with an excellent cross.
Asked if he was happy to see both Chilwell and fellow summer signing Thiago Silva finally out on the pitch, Lampard told Chelsea’s official website: ‘Yeah really happy.
‘Ben Chilwell came on, minutes, felt great afterwards, great assist in the game.
‘He’s so easy to work with already for me because, even though the language isn’t there, the intentions are there with him.
‘You can see why he’s been a winner all his career. So, happy to give him his 60 minutes, came through it comfortably as I hoped before the game.
‘So two nice stories and we’re getting people back now, we’re getting people ready.’
Marcos Alonso has started at left-back for Chelsea in their opening two Premier League games and is likely to continue there against West Brom at the weekend, with Chilwell integrated slowly as he overcomes his injury.
