Frank Lampard says there’s ‘no definitive answer’ on if Calum Hudson-Odoi will leave Chelsea before Monday’s transfer window deadline, but insists he wants the winger to be part of his squad at the moment.
Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick confirmed the Bavarian giants are again interested in the talented 19-year-old, as they were 18 months ago.
‘He’s one of the best talents in his position, he can play on the wings and also as a No.10. That is why it’s legitimate for us as Bayern to show interest,’ Flick said ahead of Bayern’s clash against Hertha Berlin on Sunday.
When asked about Flick’s comments after Chelsea’s 4-0 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday, Lampard said: ‘There is no definitive answer but by Monday, we will have one.
‘If Bayern have declared an interest then that’s one thing but as I’ve said before, everything that happens by Monday will be things that are firstly good for us as a club because Callum’s our player and also what Callum wants will come into consideration but it has to be right for everybody.
‘At the minute, I want Callum part of my squad.’
Given the Blues’ extraordinary summer of spending, Hudson-Odoi faces a big battle to get game time, but Lampard opted to field him against the Eagles and was impressed with his outing.
‘Callum’s performance, particularly in the second half when he got more aggressive and wanted to take on his full-back and go on the outside, was very good,’ the English boss said. ‘He’s absolutely part of my plans here.
‘We have Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech but we need options on the wings and what Callum showed today and when he came on against West Brom was exactly what he needs to show so I’m very pleased with him.’
