Mikel Arteta’s side were comfortably beaten 2-1 by Wolves at the Emirates on Sunday as they slipped to their fourth loss in their last six Premier League games.
Gabriel bagged his second goal of the season with a towering header, but couldn’t stop his side being put to the sword.
The imposing defender has hit the ground running since he made the £27million move from Lille back in the summer.
Up until the last few weeks, the Gunners had been solid in defence, largely owing to the form of centre-back duo Rob Holding and Gabriel.
And speaking after the Wolves defeat, Wright labelled the Brazilian as a ‘shining light’.
‘You have just got a player who is determined to get in,’ he told Premier League Productions.
‘To be honest he’s done pretty well, he’s hit a couple of stray passes, but if we’re looking at someone at Arsenal who is a shining light, he’s one of them.
‘I’m not going to dig him out too much, he’s doing the best he can.’
Jose Mourinho’s side go into the match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium flying high at the top of the table, while their north London neighbours Arsenal are languishing in 14th.
