Ben Chilwell was unable to link up with the England team for their 2-1 win over Belgium due to illness and Gareth Southgate revealed he is still being assessed by medical staff.
The Chelsea left-back was left out of the side due to a non-Covid related illness, with Marcus Rashford and Chilwell’s team-mate Mason Mount getting on the scoresheet to put England top of their Nations League group.
Southgate revealed that Chilwell has returned to training with the squad ahead of England’s clash with Denmark on Wednesday, although he will still need careful monitoring.
‘Ben reported to the hotel today,’ Southgate said after the 2-1 win over Belgium in the Nations League.
‘He did a training session on his own.
‘We’ve just got to assess where he’s at because he hasn’t been able to train through the week.
‘So, there’s a little bit of assessment needed over the next couple of days but he is with the group now.’
Chelsea will hope Chilwell has fully recovered ahead of their Premier League clash with Southampton this Saturday.
Chilwell was in impressive form as he made his first Premier League start for the Blues before the international break.
Frank Lampard’s side are five points off league leaders Everton and two points off a Champions League spot after four games.
