Gareth Southgate has hailed Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka is an ‘exciting’ player as the England manager prepares to hand the youngster his first cap for his country.
Saka was called up to the Three Lions squad for the first time last week, and is set to be deployed as a left-wing-back in the friendly against Wales on Thursday night.
The 19-year-old’s excellent form from last season has continued into the new campaign as he continues to prove him worth to Gunners boss Mikel Arteta.
Saka scored the opener in Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Sheffield United last weekend from a midfield position, once again highlighting his versatility.
Speaking ahead of the Wales match, Southgate talked up the Gunners wonderkid and admitted he has been a joy to work with.
‘I’ve loved getting to know him this week, a really charming personality you can really see how excited he is by everything,’ Southgate said.
‘Also he is an exciting player, we know he can play for or different positions already. He’s done the for Arsenal: wide left, wide right, wing back, left back.
‘Our performance tomorrow isn’t going to be perfect, we’ll have too may new players in who haven’t necessarily played together but i think theres a lot of exciting things they can do and we are excited to see them.
‘This team might lack experience but it’s also an opportunity for a lot of young players.’
