Nigeria’s Gift Orban was on target in the Bundesliga as Hoffenheim made light work of Werder Bremen, winning 3-1.
Hoffenheim eased their relegation fears with a crucial win away at Werder Bremen.
Werder took an early lead through Stanley Nsoki’s own goal, but Hoffenheim responded well. Anton Stach equalized with a shot that wrong-footed goalkeeper Michael Zetterer, and Tom Bischof completed the turnaround on the stroke of halftime with a similar effort.
The decisive blow came just after the hour mark, as Nigerian star Gift Orban scored a brilliant header to give Hoffenheim a two-goal lead. Orban’s goal was a highlight-reel moment, as he met a cross at the far post with a powerful and precise header that left Zetterer with no chance. It was Orban’s 3rd goal since joining Hoffenheim.
The defeat leaves Werder 10th, and they risk being cut adrift of the European places unless their poor form improves. Meanwhile, Hoffenheim opens up a seven-point gap between themselves and the relegation zone.
