Graeme Souness is expecting a repeat of last season’s top four in the upcoming Premier League campaign, with Liverpool retaining the title they won for the first time.
The former Reds player and manager has labelled Jugen Klopp’s side as the favourites to win the Premier League for a second consecutive season, although feels that the race for glory will be closer than last season.
Liverpool strolled to the title, finishing 18 points clear of Manchester City and picking up 99 points in the process.
Mikel Arteta has clearly had an impact at the Emirates, winning the FA Cup and Community Shield in August, but Souness thinks they are still some way behind the top clubs.
‘As it stands, Liverpool are the favourites for the title, but I don’t see them running away with it again,’ Souness wrote in the Sunday Times.
‘I expect a bigger challenge, though, from United and Chelsea this time.
‘Chelsea have signed well, but let’s see how quickly Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz settle in.
‘Beyond that, I don’t see a title challenger. People are making noises about Arsenal, but I don’t see them being strong enough.
‘If you’re asking me now, that’s my top four for next May: Liverpool, City, United and Chelsea.’
Souness may consider Liverpool the favourites to lift the Premier League trophy again but the bookmakers do not agree with him, making Manchester City odds-on to regain the title.
