Georginio Wijnaldum’s future at Liverpool will not be affected by the imminent arrival of Thiago Alcantara, reports say.
Liverpool have agreed a fee with Bayern Munich for Thiago and it was thought the signing would mean Wijnaldum would leave the club.
Jurgen Klopp has a host of options in midfield, including Fabinho, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita, Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson.
Wijnaldum has less than 12 months left on his deal with Liverpool and Barcelona were hoping to snap the Dutchman up in a bargain transfer.
But ESPN claim Liverpool have changed their mind about letting Wijnaldum leave and Klopp plans to have the 29-year-old play with Thiago at Anfield.
Klopp was told a player would have to leave to free space up on Liverpool’s wage bill, but that is no longer the case.
Wijnaldum is waiting for Liverpool to offer him a new deal after holding talks with Klopp.
Klopp has been quizzed repeatedly about the interest in the Thiago and the future of Wijnaldum, but the German coach insisted there was no issues with his current midfielder.
He said: ‘Since Gini is here, I think I have had five, six hundred talks with him so that is always the same, nothing else to say about that.
‘Of course I’ve spoken to him since he came back from international duty. Yes it is absolutely fine about the future.
‘Between, me, Gini and the club everything is completely fine – apart from anything to announce to you.
‘But that is more your problem than ours because we are completely fine about the situation.’
