Wright, the former Arsenal striker, has been impressed by the level shown by the Portuguese since he arrived from Wolves this summer and thinks he should be in with a shout of replacing Firmino in the starting XI.
Firmino has come under the microscope this season for his lack of goals.
He has notched just once in seven Premier League starts and Wright thinks it’s ‘something Liverpool need to address’.
Jota, by contrast has scored three goals in just two starts in the league, while he has four Champions League goals to his name in the same number of starts.
And Wright thinks he deserves to lead the line along with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah against last season’s runners-up Manchester City on Sunday.
Asked if he’d start him ahead of Firmino against City, Wright told Premier League Productions: ‘Yeah, I would.
‘Bobby Firmino’s form in terms of goalscoring is something Liverpool need to address.
‘He needs to get all three of them doing it and at the moment all three of them can do it. I’d probably play him, yeah.’
‘Watching him the last three games, you can see he’s someone who is going to really, really kick on there. He’s going to really kick on.’
