Sheffield United kept the Gunners at bay for 60 minutes at the Emirates on Sunday before Bukayo Saka headed home from Bellerin’s inviting cross.
Just four minutes later, Arsenal record signing Nicolas Pepe made a superb run down the right wing and slotted home to double the Gunners’ lead.
David McGoldrick curled home Sheffield United’s first goal of the season late on but Arsenal held on for a deserved victory in north London.
Wright was pleased with his former club’s performance and singled out Bellerin for praise after Arsenal moved to fourth in the Premier League.
He told Premier League productions: ‘They needed to up their game in the second half and they did that. They showed their quality.
‘Hector Bellerin deserves a lot of credit. He’s had a hand in both goals there. I’m pleased with the way it’s going for him because there was a period when the fans were getting a little frustrated with him.
‘But since lockdown he’s been really, really good for us.’
Wright added: ‘This is where you want Nicolas Pepe playing. There’s been times where he’s been covered and he can’t open his legs or get going.
On Arsenal’s season so far, Wright said: ‘It’s very early days.
‘They’ve got some tough fixtures coming up which will be a test but, at the moment, keep on winning and keeping that momentum is important.’
