In Wright still has concerns over Timo Werner’s form, insisting Chelsea are still guilty of missing too many chances in front of goal.
Werner has scored just five times in the Premier League this season in his 23 starting appearances, playing the full 90 in Chelsea’s last two league outings against Everton and Liverpool.
The Germany international had opportunities to add to his tally in both matches and was perhaps unlucky to see an effort at Anfield ruled out for offside.
Chelsea are unbeaten under Thomas Tuchel and have won eight out of 11 games with the former PSG boss in charge. Wright says Werner is still guilty of snatching at his chances but believes Chelsea will ‘really start to cause problems’ once the German starts finding the back of the net more regularly.
‘Unfortunately for him Timo Werner missed another couple of chances,’ Wright told Premier League Productions.
‘When you look at how well Chelsea played against Liverpool I thought they were very good the way they played.
‘They made so many changes today and played well again today. Converting those chances only gives confidence to the team and probably him as well.
‘He just seems to be snatching chances that if he could take them it would then give Chelsea the confidence that they are playing well from back to front and then they are finishing off they could really start to cause people problems.’
‘They’re still missing too many,’ he continued.
‘The fact is he’ll probably get the time because of the outlay on him and what they’ve invested in him.
‘We know he’s capable of scoring he does it in the Bundesliga and at international level but for some reason it’s not quite clicking and gelling as well as we thought he would do at Chelsea right now.
‘It’s not like they’re not making chances. That would be the worry for me.’
