It’s the Premier League – Nottingham Forest’s Awoniyi drops hint ahead of summer transfer window

Nottingham Forest’s striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, says his future is in the Premier League. The 27-year-old striker added that he knows when to bid farewell to the League, but the time is not now.

Awoniyi’s 20245/2025 season with the Tricky Trees has been marred by injuries and a lack of minutes, given Chris Wood’s imperious form.

The New Zealand striker has practically kept Awoniyi on the bench with his consistency in front of goal this season.

Chris Wood has registered 19 goals and three assists in 33 Premier League matches so far this season.

However, given his limited playing time this season and the possibility of him leaving the City Ground in the Summer, Awoniyi says his future remains in the Premier League.

He added that his family and agent know he is not willing to leave the Premier League anytime soon, as he still has two years left on his contract.

The striker made the comments in a chat with Humbleboots

For me, it’s always the Premier League. My family, agent, everyone knows [that] it’s always the Premier League,” the former Union Berlin striker said.

“I know when I will tell myself, ‘Thank you, Premier League. So, I still have two more years with Nottingham Forest, thank God for that.”

Taiwo Awoniyi revealed that he has been approached by some clubs in Spain, but he doesn’t read their messages.

Everyone knows [It’s the Premier League]. I’ve seen people text me and be like ‘we have this good project in Spain’ — I don’t even reply to them. Sometimes I block them immediately because it’s not my conversation.”

The 27-year-old, in his first season at Nottingham Forest, helped former manager Steve Cooper survive relegation in the 2022/2023 season.

Awoniyi will look to get active playing time in the team, or elsewhere, as he looks to increase his chances of making Eric Chelle’s Super Eagles squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco later in the year.
