Mikel Arteta’s side were beaten 2-1 by the Toffees at Goodison Park on Saturday as they put in yet another dismal display.
The Gunners extended their winless run in the Premier League to seven matches which has left them down in 15th place in the table.
Though the pressure on Arteta is mounting, Liverpool legend Carragher believes the Spanish boss needs multiple new additions to be properly judged on his difficult job of rebuilding the north London club.
‘For [Arsenal] to get back to where they want to be, they will have to go through a lot of pain and they will do,’ Carragher told Sky Sports.
‘A couple of signings they made this season, Gabriel [Magalhaes], [Thomas] Partey, they could be a big part of Arsenal for years to come.
‘But they need a few more players in the January transfer window. If Arteta can get six or seven players in then he can be judged on the job that he’s doing.’
‘The fight that the boys show every time they go on the pitch and the energy the boys show on the pitch. You can see that, you cannot deny that.
‘Obviously we are against the results, it’s not good enough, it’s not good enough for the standards of this football club and this is the challenge. And the fact that we are against.’
