Former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder Jamie Redknapp says he will be ‘amazed’ if Chelsea don’t bring in a new goalkeeper before the transfer deadline.

The Blues have been by far the most active Premier League club in the market so far, already wrapping up major deals for the likes of Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz is their next target, with a club-record £90million fee reportedly agreed with the German club for the talented midfielder.

However, their goalkeeping situation still remains an issue of contention, with Kepa Arrizabalaga –  the world’s most expensive keeper – struggling to live up to his £72million price tag.

The Spaniard committed a whole host of errors last season and was dropped in favour of backup stopper Willy Caballero for Chelsea’s final three games of the campaign.

Although Lampard’s new forward options offer him plenty of attacking firepower, Redknapp believes their ‘major problem’ between the sticks needs to be resolved in time for the new season.

The ex-England international told Sky Sports: ‘I like what Frank’s doing there, you almost forget about Ziyech that they signed so early at the end of last season, so he’s been a player that’s had a few months at the club, he understands how Frank works, he’s going to be a really good signing.

‘Pulisic obviously was signed the season before, he had an amazing season. When you look at the attacking quality they have, it looks outstanding.

‘I still think they’re a little way off, Frank will be aware of that.

‘I don’t think they’ve sorted out the goalkeeping situation either yet because that was a major problem last year with Frank chopping and changing the goalkeeper.

‘I’d be amazed if they don’t get a goalkeeper in before the season starts.

‘I think Liverpool right now and Manchester City are still some way ahead of where Chelsea are, but they’re improving.’
