Manchester United v LASK - UEFA Europa League Round of 16: Second Leg

Manchester United haven’t received any offers for Jesse Lingard

Manchester United outcast Jesse Lingard is set to stay at Old Trafford with the club planning on keeping the midfielder beyond the end of the transfer window.

The England international’s time at the club appeared over after a disastrous campaign last term, where he managed just three goals in all competitions.

Lingard came through United’s academy and is a popular member of the dressing room but off-field problems contributed to a poor season.

The 27-year-old was left out of United’s 18-man squad to face Crystal Palace last Saturday and he’s been linked with a move to Tottenham, which would see him reunite with former manager Jose Mourinho.

However, though United were once willing to listen to offers for Lingard, it appears that the ship has sailed on cashing in on the midfielder with the Daily Mail reporting that he’s set to stay at the club.

It could be that the club are attempting to save face after failing to attract a suitable offer for Lingard, despite interest from the likes of AC Milan in recent months.

United had been willing to part with the midfielder, particularly as they need to raise funds to have any chance of signing £108m-rated Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.

But the club have struggled to offload deadwood this summer, with the likes of Sergio Romero, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Andreas Pereira and Marcos Rojo are still at the Theatre of Dreams with a fortnight left in the transfer window.

United remain confident of making at least one signing in the remaining time of the window, though a move for a left-back appears more likely than the arrival of a right winger.

Porto ace Alex Telles is keen on a move to the club but United are haggling with the Portuguese club over their £23m asking price.
