John Barnes claims it ‘doesn’t make sense’ for Liverpool to sign Jadon Sancho and says he ‘doubts very much’ that the England ace will end up at Anfield.
Sancho has developed into one of the most exciting and coveted players in the world since joining Borussia Dortmund from Manchester City in 2017.
The 20-year-old has scored 35 goals in 102 appearances for the German club while also establishing himself as a regular in Gareth Southgate’s England side.
Sancho’s performances have attracted attention from a number of clubs and Manchester United attempted to secure his signature during the summer transfer window.
After Ed Woodward failed to wrap up a deal for Sancho, it has been reported that Liverpool are now more likely to sign the player than Man United.
But Anfield legend Barnes cannot see Liverpool signing Sancho and says the the move ‘doesn’t make sense’ for the Premier League champions.
‘I can’t see Jadon Sancho getting in ahead of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah or Roberto Firmino, so for him to come he would have to fight for a place and not necessarily be in the team,’ Barnes told BonusCodeBets.
‘I don’t think anyone from the front three will be replaced and seeing as they’ve just signed Diogo Jota and they have Origi and Shaqiri, it dosen’t make sense to get Sancho.
‘I’d be very surprised if they get him. It’s good to get great players, but are Liverpool going to spend £100m on one player, I doubt it very much.
‘I don’t think that’s one that will happen.’
Jurgen Klopp’s side won their first three league games of the 2020-21 season but were thrashed 7-2 by Aston Villa before the international break.
Liverpool will look to bounce back when they return to Premier League action on October 17 against Merseyside rivals Everton.
