Liverpool hero Steve Nicol is astounded that Donny van de Beek continues to be snubbed for Manchester United as the midfielder was once again left out for Saturday’s goalless draw with Chelsea.
The 23-year-old has not started once for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side in the Premier League since making the £40million move from Ajax back in the summer.
As the Red Devils were held to a 0-0 draw by Chelsea at Old Trafford, Van de Beek was an unused substitute, with Solskjaer opting to begin with Fred and Scott McTominay at the base of his midfield.

The Netherlands international was pictured looking gloomy in the stands and former Liverpool defender Nicol can understand why, when 32-year-old Juan Mata was picked in the starting XI, and he wasn’t.
Nicol told ESPN FC: ‘When I saw the team, I’m thinking, “Juan Mata? Van de Beek must be injured”.
‘But there he was sat in the stands, I’m thinking, “This guy must be absolutely ready to get himself out of there”.
‘What has he got to do to get a game? Juan Mata plays before you? Oh my goodness.’
‘Don’t worry about that,’ the Norwegian told Sky Sports.
