Jurgen Klopp was delighted with how Kostas Tsimikas and Diogo Jota performed on their Liverpool debuts as his side advanced to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup with a 7-2 thrashing of Lincoln City.
Tsimikas – who arrived from Olympiacos this summer – got 90 minutes under his belt for the first time in a Liverpool shirt as he started at left-back, while Jota replaced Harvey Elliot just before the hour mark.
Jota was signed from Wolves for £41million this week but it was Takumi Minamino and Curtis Jones who were the standout performers on the night.
Both scored twice after Xherdan Shaqiri’s outrageous free-kick opener before forgotten man Marko Grujic scored a sixth midway through the second half.
Divock Origi wrapped things up in the final minute of normal time to cap off an excellent night’s work for Klopp’s men.
Asked if he was happy with the performances of his two debutants, Klopp replied: ‘Yeah, absolutely.
‘Kostas is a really good fooballer, we saw a few crosses from him and stuff like this
‘But he has to adapt to what we do. That’s normal.
‘Diogo, I only wanted to give him 30 minutes actually. It was a little bit longer that he was on the pitch.
‘He was involved and all that stuff. I think everybody could see some glimpses of what he can do for us.’
