Jurgen Klopp hailed Liverpool’s performance as ‘really good’ despite failing to put Newcastle to the sword in a 0-0 draw.
Karl Darlow put in a man of the match display in the Newcastle goal as he thwarted several attempts from Liverpool’s all star attack but it was a frustrating night for Klopp’s troops.
But despite it being the first time they had failed to score in 22 league matches, Klopp was more than satisfied with the display from his side.
‘The Premier League is only good teams,’ he told BBC Sport. ‘We had big chances. The opposition is good and that happens all the time.
‘You might not think I have to tip my hat to my team but I like the performance. It was really good, can we play better football? Yes, but in this game we did more than enough to win it.
‘I think we had four 100% chances. We have won against Newcastle before with fewer chances. Tonight we didn’t but we accept that. I am happy with the things I saw tonight and I can really work with that.
‘The boys are frustrated and rightly so but not about the performance. It is a basis to build on for the next few days, weeks, months.’
Darlow, one of many heroes for Newcastle on the night, told Match of the Day: ‘I am delighted with a clean sheet and a point at home.
‘It was terrific to see the lads’ work rate and to come out with a point. I can only concentrate on what I am doing.
‘It has been brilliant to have him [Martin Dubravka] back to be honest and to work with him again. It is good to be under pressure.’
