Lothar Matthaus claims Jurgen Klopp is the ‘one person’ Germany want to replace national team manager Joachim Low in the future.
Klopp has brought major success to Anfield since moving to Merseyside from Borussia Dortmund in 2015.
Klopp’s contract at Liverpool expires in 2024 and former Germany captain Matthaus sees him as the only successor to Low, who has been at the helm for 14 years.
‘He is extremely successful, personable and equally popular with fans and the media.
‘He’s far from finished in Liverpool and he’ll have time for the national team in a few years.’
The German had suggested that he would walk away from Liverpool when his contract was up, but he admitted in September that he may consider an extension on his stay at Anfield.
‘I still have four years left on my contract. It’s an eternity in football. I do not know what I will do in four years,’ Klopp told Leeroy will’s wissen!.
‘Maybe I want to think about whether I should extend my contract or not. If I do not, I will go on vacation.
‘But I know that I do not want to leave Liverpool and begin somewhere else the next day. That will certainly not happen.’
