Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has urged midfielder Gini Wijnaldum to sign a new deal at Anfield following his stunning goal against Wolves.
The Dutchman curled an exquisite effort into the top corner from 25 yards as the Reds returned to joint-top of the Premier League table with a 4-0 win against Wolves.
Wijnaldum was tipped to leave Anfield last summer after strong interest from Barcelona, who made the midfielder a top target following the appointment of Ronald Koeman.
However, the Dutchman has remained a regular on Merseyside even though his contract expires at the end of the season and Klopp admits he wants the midfielder to extend his stay.
‘I hope so [that he signs], to be honest,’ Klopp told Amazon Sport.
‘You can see that, he plays all the time. We have a pretty good relationship. I hope so.’
The Dutchman was in no mood to speak about his future after the match, insisting that the ball is in Liverpool’s court.
‘I already said it in my previous interviews, I don’t speak about my contract situation,’ said Wijnaldum.
‘I speak about the games. The club should speak about my contract.’
